Alaska Cruise Ship Murder

Utah Man Sentenced to Prison for Cruise Ship Murder

Details of the Crime

On Thursday, a Utah man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for killing his wife aboard a cruise ship in 2019. The victim, 54-year-old Kristy Manzanares, was found dead in her cabin on the Emerald Princess, which was docked in Alaska at the time.

Motive and Sentencing

According to prosecutors, the killer, 56-year-old Kenneth Manzanares, confessed to killing his wife after an argument over money. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with no possibility of parole.

The couple was on a two-week cruise to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary when Kristy was killed. Manzanares initially reported his wife as missing, but he was later arrested and charged with her death.

The victim's family and friends expressed outrage over the murder and the lenient sentence. They said they believed that Manzanares should have received a life sentence.
